Has anyone read this book? What is it like? Is it a bunch of really short mystery stories about the historical girls? Is the reader supposed to figure out the end or what? Is it any good?
I'm working towards earning a Barnes & Noble gift certificate through my credit card usage, and I'm trying to plan what to spend it on.

My DD has this book and has been reading it lately. It is not about the historical girls - it is a lot of very short stories that you need to solve the mystery in -- the answers are in the back under flaps. DD likes this book and has been reading it and trying to solve the mysteries with her friend. She got it for Christmas. If you have any more questions, ask away - oh DD is 9.5.

I'm confused then...if it's not about the historical girls, why are they on the cover, and why does the AG site say, "Each story in this book offers hints that answer the ?who,? ?what,? and ?why? questions that are puzzling Samantha, Josefina, Kit, Molly, and the rest of favorite American Girl characters"?

I think the one that Momtoatrio is talking about is this one.
Mini Mysteries
I've seen the books in this series at Books a Million; I think there's several different ones. They are not about the historical girls. Some of these stories have been printed in the AG magazine a lot too.
I would like to hear a review of the new book also. Here's a link for anyone who wasn't aware of this title.

Ann, thanks for asking this; I was wondering also and will keep an eye on this thread.
I have the book on my wish list. If by chance I get it, I'll be sure to post a review. Sometimes mysteries for kids are so obvious they make you groan, while at other times they can even challenge adults (one example is Encyclopedia Brown--now those were good!).
I'm hoping they're short mysteries like Encyclopedia Brown or the Two-Minute Mysteries which are both by Donald J. Sobol (just mentioning them for anyone who likes short mysteries. ).

I don't think this book is "technically" available yet. It's on the AG site, but that's it. Amazon has a date for these new releases as this Tuesday, and this book should be in stores then, along with the other new releases.
I'm planning on picking the new mysteries (and maybe a few other new ones) up on Tuesday, I'll definitely look at this one, and if it looks good, I might get it. I'll definitely report back to this thread on what I think of it, whether I get it or not, if someone hasn't made a report by then.

I just wanted to cross-reference the two threads. For Ann and anyone else interested in the book, Katie posted a great review here:
